Editech Partners

Editech was formed in 1984 by Ann F. Birch. Ann is a 1973 honors graduate of the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology with a B.S. in chemistry. She began her career at The Dow Chemical Company in 1973. While at Dow, Ann’s talents for writing and editing were well recognized. She often edited technical reports and department activity reports. Ann is the author of 30 Dow technology reports and is a member of the American Chemical Society. She has served on the board of the ACS—Midland Section and as the volunteer editor of the section newsletter, The Midland Chemist.

Ann has broad knowledge and practical experience with polymer systems and processing techniques. She is familiar with commonly used polymer test methods and advanced materials. Most of all, she developed the writing and editing skills that established Editech’s reputation.

James (Jim) R. Birch joined Editech in January 1989. Jim graduated with honors in 1970 from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a B.S. in chemical engineering. He began his career with The Dow Chemical Company in 1970 and held positions in research, process development, and production plant support. While at Dow, Jim authored 23 technology reports and several articles in Chemical Engineering magazine and was awarded one U.S. patent.

Jim adds an additional perspective to Editech with knowledge and experience in chemical engineering, unit operations, process control and automation, process economics, and computers. He has attended seminars on publication design and leads Editech’s efforts in electronic publishing, both in print and on the web. Jim has designed and maintains newsletters, web sites, and databases for a number of nonprofit organizations on a voluntary basis.
